Gabriel Errant {Chaser}
And what you do, you do so nicely!
Wed May 18, 2011 00:13

Though not especially close, most probably due to schedules outside of Quidditch, Gabriel was nevertheless able to enjoy the time he spent with Hyana as a friend whom he did his utmost to make laugh. Usually craving attention, it was gratifying to be with someone who appeared to find him somewhat amusing. Like the girls in class all those years ago who never got in trouble because when the professor heard them laugh he immediately knew it was Gabriel who was the source of the distraction ('To the headmaster, Errant.'). Gabriel knew Hyana enough now to know that she did not really appreciate it when chasers saved her goals. He could see it from her point of view; she had the only position in Quidditch that was stationary, and only way to distinguish herself on the pitch - making a save. When the chasers took that away from her (not once, but two times) it communicated faithlessness in her abilities, and disrespect.

'But,' Gabriel thought, dodging a bludger by pulling to the side, and caught the pass Hyana threw to him, taking it back up the pitch. 'Sometimes we just can't help ourselves.' He thought that that at least united him, Hector, and Patrick - their impatience. It was hard, he thought, to ask them to slow down, pull their broom away and not go after the save that was a few inches from their fingertips once they sped up to it... He'd played with Hyana long enough now, and could trust her to be good at her post. Their job was the middle of the pitch and the opposite keeper's goal hoops, not their own.

"Tea Party!" He shouted out once he thought he was in earshot of fellow chasers. It was a new play he had worked out during practice, inspired by that moment of foolishness when he had called out a play Hyana had already known and could easily block. He switched the Quaffle to his left hand and dove lower while streaking the field, pushing his broom faster and trusting Hector and Patrick to fall into formation. Whoever was on his right would pull up beside him, Gabriel would feint a pass to him while the chaser on his left side would dive down suddenly and receive the quick drop pass Gabriel would send. They shouted the name out, because the rule was that there were two Tea Party plays. The next time one of them called out "Tea Party" the Boardhound chasers would assume the same play was happening, while the SUM chasers did a completely different routine.

Out of the corner of his eye, Gabriel was sure he made out his fellow chaser and turned his body to make the feint, wind causing the robes to flap against his knees, and he was certain he could hear the sound of robes flapping by a nearby chaser perhaps diving beneath him. Trusting his team, he raised his arm and jerked his tightly closed hand at one chaser while letting the Quaffle drop down to the SUM chaser beneath him.

        Patrick had narrowly dodged the Boardhound Chaser's kick, but a little nick in the head wasn't too bad. He could deal with that. After making his goal and not allowing the cheering to go to his head, ... more
