Aerin had always been a morning person, and today she’d found herself up earlier than normal due to nerves about the impending Quidditch match. Though she hadn’t been plagued by dreams of death-by-bludger the night before as she had on match day of previous years, the fact that today could potentially be her last playing for Cetus was definitely causing stress. The seventh-year had never been one to yearn for glory, and though winning was nice it wasn’t her main purpose in playing Quidditch. She was in it for the team spirit, for the sportsmanship, for the fun. Whereas most other players seemed to get caught up in House rivalries, Aerin found the intense competition stressful. Nevertheless, today she wore her Cetus Quidditch robes with pride, determined to see her team through to the finals.

After a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast, Aerin plodded over to the Pitch. The sight of brittle snow on the ground made her miss Matt furiously; he would have loved playing in this weather. With a big sigh, Aerin cast a heating charm and made her way over to where the team was gathering. Seth had been hugely successful in avoiding her so far this term, in part because of his own efforts, but also because she’d been so busy with schoolwork. Professor Gallico seemed determined to drown his advanced students in work this term, and Aerin could not afford to fall behind – she needed a good recommendation from him for her college applications. Still, talking to Seth remained on her mental checklist, and she decided that regardless of how busy things got, she would hunt him down within the week.

As the captains shook hands, Aerin began a mantra of not the last time, not the last time, not the last time in her head. Cetus had to make it to the finals this term. As the whistle kazoo, wait, what? Aerin jumped into the air only to look back down distractedly to see what weird whistle Coach Blair was using. By the time she brought her attention back to the match, Emily was well on her way to Aquila’s end of the Pitch. Cursing under her breath at her own lack of focus, Aerin raced after her fellow Chaser.

Just as Aerin was closing in on Emily, flying a few feet above her, she heard the familiar whir of a bludger on her tail. A quick look back confirmed evasive maneuvers would be necessary. Grumbling, Aerin dived down without thinking, inadvertently forcing Emily to change her course to avoid being hit. “Sorry!” Aerin yelled, before twisting back toward the Cetus goalposts and leading the bludger away from the action. Where the heck are our Beaters?! By the time she’d lost the bludger, the Quaffle was in Aquila’s hands and heading down the Pitch towards her. Aerin glared at Mikey and charged towards him, ignoring the loose strands of hair whipping about her face.

NOT the last time! Aerin intercepted the Quaffle and turned to the Aquila goal posts. Mikey hadn’t made it too far down the Pitch, and now Jesse Ramos was getting closer with each second. It was miraculous Emily had made it so far down the Pitch on her own. Hopefully she was nearby to catch the Quaffle now. Aerin spotted the familiar flash of blue of a Cetus Chaser and threw the Quaffle towards it. She had thrown the ball a bit too far but with some quick maneuvering a catch would still be possible.
