“ARRGH!” Emily shouted as she saw Mikey Lawrence swipe her shot before it got anywhere near the goalposts. Perhaps if she had waited for someone else to help it would have gone better, but she was never one for patience. Tossing her long brown ponytail out of her face, Emily continued down the pitch, searching for Aerin or Cayden. They probably wouldn’t be too pleased with her taking off on her own, but she tended to forget to look for her fellow chasers when her eyes were on the goal.

As the wind whipped her face, Emily sent a silent thanks to Seth for mentioning the heating charms before the game. She would surely be miserable without it. At last her eyes found the blue she was looking for. Emily spotted Aerin making a beeline towards Mikey, clearly unhappy that the Aquila had taken the Quaffle. She willed her broom to go faster, wanting to help in whatever way she could.

Aerin intercepted the Quaffle and turned herself back towards the Aquila goalposts. Luckily the Quaffle hadn’t gotten too far down the pitch. Emily noticed that Jesse Ramos was headed right towards Aerin, and before she could shout anything, Aerin had thrown the Quaffle in Emily’s direction. The second year groaned as the ball sailed right past her outstretched arm—the throw had been a bit too far. She heaved her broom in the direction the Quaffle had gone and flew after it, hoping she could get her fingers on it before another Aquila player could.

With a rather ungraceful twist, Emily managed to get her fingertips on the ball and slide it under her arm. Just as she had straightened herself out, Emily heard the rush of a Bludger coming from underneath her.

Uh oh, she thought, and flew straight up, hoping to get the Bludger out of the main action. Seth, she noticed, was flying near the bottom of the pitch. Well, he couldn’t help at this exact moment, so unless Copeland was nearby she’d have to get rid of this one herself. Sadly, she realized that she was going to have to also get rid of the Quaffle so that it would stay nearer this end of the pitch. Looking back from where the Quaffle had come from, she spotted who she thought was Aerin and threw the Quaffle back towards her, hoping she’d have enough space to catch it and continue towards the goal posts.
