He has a smooth face, excellent education, and very insinuating manner; reads poetry eloquently, talks fluently of his travels in Europe and elsewhere, has the name of every New York banker at command, and is evidently fitted by nature for a most consummate swindler. One of his favorite tricks is to engage a man in conversation, learn his genealogy in part, and supply the rest; then claim to be a cousin, or some relation, and obtain a loan.
