Interesting article. Eyewitness account PRIOR to the Wagner robbery "informed by a man living on the Yellowstone that three men crossed that stream some days PRIOR to the Great Northern hold-up, going northward. One of the was Longabaugh, already identified, and another was Cassidy. The identity of the third, who is believed to be Kid Curry, was not made positive by the man who saw the party ford the river."

And prior to the robbery, they seem to have been helped by the notorious "Latrine Liz," a Malta saloon girl about which I wish I knew more!

Hi Vince, I find it interesting the eyewitness did not name Curry as he didnt know, he was being honest. He did name Cassidy and Longabaugh. Interesting as well that it happened prior to the robbery. ... more

He probably didn't name cassidy and longabaugh. That was likely an inference by the reporter. Deaf Charley had just had his escape in Nashville, was presumed to be BC, and the papers were reporting... more

Vince, Im sorry, but I disagree. This was two weeks after the robbery. Nashville was later. Ben Kilpatrick hadnt been arrested in St. Louis yet. best, Chris

You're right! I'm sorry. I was looking at the date of your posting and my brain was confusing it for the article date. That being said, one can only guess why he got the names wrong. Obviously the... more

No problem Vince. You are usually right on :) Following tradition doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Not saying your wrong, but why would he say he only knew two of the three. Someone who wants to be ... more

That's the only guess I can make to attribute his horrible ID of the two men. If he personally knew butch and sd, how could he make such a horrible ID? The four don't look alike. Kiklpatrick... more
