Has it occurred to you they may not want to let "just anybody" handling a priceless historical document; or that they don't want to just haul it out because someone asks to see it?

I suspect if Dan wanted to see it, they'd let HIM since he's the recognized world's top BC researcher. The rest of us, including Bob, aren't on the radar as far as they're concerned, most likely, and unworthy of being paid attention to. To them, we're just pesky hobbyists.

I don't see any reason to infer there's some big conspiracy going on,

And what if they destroy part of it and "test" it to find it was written a hundred years ago? What earthshaking revelation will that prove to be?

If the word of the Porter aboard the ship means anything, he was able to ID SD and Etta from 1902 but apparently did not see Butch, which meant Butch had to have been there before them, not that he went down in 1902 w/them, BTW (getting back, for a moment, to this ongoing issue of whether or not he was there in 1901).

Is that your whole issue w/this letter? It places him in South America so you need this letter to be a fake?

Bob went last week and got the same run around.

I don't think they have an original or it would be displayed.

Dan would stand a chance of a snowball in hell getting into that vault or it's contents. They don't recognize his as anything but a gentile.

So is this one of those "only a high-level Mormon official can gain entry" things?

Actually, in my discussions with the librarians and curators, I think that at least half of the staff are not LDS.

YOU don't need it to be fake. That comment was a question to Pat who has this big theory that Butch never went to SA. SHE, if anyone, would need it to be fake because if it is not it hurts her theory
