All good observations -- plausible answers.

First, his southbound ship might have stopped in Brazil, at Rio &/or Sao Paulo, and t most certainly stopped at Montevideo, Uruguay.

Why is EP getting a cut? Have no idea, unless Cassidy is joking around. His letter has some traces of innocents abroad. Anyway, maybe it was the only way Sundance could persuade EP to sail off with two scruffy cowboys.

Re the last point, Cassidy is lamenting, he's crying on Matilda's shoulder, he's exaggerating. Yes, he had neighbors who spoke English, but that spoils the lament. He also had Argentine & Chilean neighbors, and his peons were all Chileans. Best, Dan

        Regarding Etta getting a cut--I think it most likely he was just speaking in generalities. CARVER got 30% of Winnemucca, but they did have other cash they apparently took, and it is not inconceivable ... more
