Butch was not working for the 2Bar in 1891. He was in Lost Cabin and BHB .There is a lot of documentation on it. He had his own little cattle /horse herd and was also working at the Padlock on Owl Creek.

But also Longabaugh was in JC area and had been in Jail in Sundance ,Crook Co in 1889. Plus Elzy was in western part of state and also in BHB by at least 1886.

What became the WB gang or HIW gang were crawling all over this state but were not known as such until the JC war which was also same time as BHB war . They were made famous or infamous by the cattlemen and WSGA putting articles in newspapers to smear these small cattle raisers.

And yes a lot of them had come down from MT .
