Herbert Grice as I recall was back in the US by 1906 -- correct? -- thus out of the picture in terms of Bolivia.

As for Butch Cassidy being the Englishman Frank Murray or the North American Ray Walters, there's no evidence to that effect, and better evidence that eliminates that possibility. First, Murray and Walters both signed documents contained within the Expediente. Their handwriting looks nothing like that of Butch Cassidy. Second, Murray and Walters were coming south from central Bolivia in early November 1908; Butch Cassidy was already in Tupiza & environs by late October, ether lodging with A.G. Francis or staying at the Hotel Terminus as Santiago Lowe. Dan
