Wyoming research/writer Mary Garman died last December, a colleague has advised me. Garman (1932-2018) was a lawyer and judge in Sundance, WY, and active in many civic and community groups. She is best known in Wild Bunch circles for her pioneering 1977 monograph, Harry Longabaugh -- The Sundance Kid -- The Early Years, 1867-1889, a look at the outlaw's formative outlaw period in Wyoming.

The Early Years was first published in Bits and Pieces (Newcastle WY), vol II, no. 3, 1977, and republished by the Cook County Museum Board in 1978. She also wrote "The Sundance Kid," NOLA Quarterly, vol. V. no. 4, July 1980.

Back in the 1980s, when Anne Meadows and I first dipped our toes in Wild Bunch waters, Garman was very kind us, responding patiently to our newbie questions. A model for us all.
