not to put too fine a point on it but people criticizing aspects of forensics are themselves scientists. In fact, one of the major reports was issued by the US National Academy of Sciences. Has nothing to do with the media; these are scientists talking.

Second, just because something is as you say "used in court" does not make it accurate. Scientists have learned that such thinks as bite mark and blood spatter, long used in court, are junk science.

Regardless, even if the science is done properly, that's only the beginning, not the conclusion. The jury decides what's what. If you have ever watched a trail you know that the proceedings often involve competing expert witnesses who have differing opinions about the exact same evidence.

It's not a perfect system by any means, but more often than not a better verdict will result from the competing arguments.
