Cathy, your message would have been crystal clear had you left out the word "from."

You wrote,

"As far as the folks back in 1898, they believe they looked at the evidence on July 9, and decided that Frank Reid killed Soapy. That was why the coroner's jury was called by Commissioner Sehlbrede: to make the determination and figure out if anyone (Reid or Murphy) should be prosecuted by a court of law. We can't reopen the case more than a century later."

That's an opinion and I do not believe it for a second. I believe the vigilantes knew what they were doing and had to go the route they did, or suffer the very real possibility of losing their new found power.

You have written several times now that "we can't reopen the case." I don't know of anyone whose trying to reopen a court case. I'm interested in finding the truth and I have to admit that the research I have done has made a lot of people change their thinking about Soapy's death.

You wrote,

"I did NOT write that I believe Frank killed Soapy. You keep copying what I say, and you still don't seem to read it, Jeff!"

Cathy, I do understand your way of thinking. I don't agree with it at all but that's not relevant here. What is relevant is that while you explained your theory here, you did not, however explain yourself on your website. Therefore, whether you like it or not, on your website page you clearly came across as if you personally believe Frank Reid killed Soapy. Everyone I know who looked at that page agreed so. I'm sorry if that was not your meaning. I suggest rewriting that page to include an understandable explanation of your theory. I'm hoping that you are more successful in getting your ideas across in your book. You can't get mad at me, you're the one who wrote it, lol.

Regarding your "provenance" that John Ford coined the phrase, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend" I will wait and see, although everything I have read regarding that line differs. Beyond that, as a historian interested in non-fictional facts, the phrase is meaningless.
