I went to Italy from Offutt. That is where I got into umpiring Little league. I was stationed with a Philly guy who really knew the game and he taught me how to umpire and how to do it right! He was a little older than I. He drove the 11 Trolley for PTC prior to entering the Air Force. I also never allowed the parents to pick on the kids. That was what I was there for. Fortunately, I was pretty good at it and rarely had any issues. I did make a controversial call years later when in Alaska, I called my eleven year old daughter out at third. Even the other coach said I was wrong! My wife and daughter continue to this day stating I made a bad call. I might have, but I defend myself and tell them to check the score book! Definitely fun days!
