Lines vs Scouting
Tue Dec 12, 2017 14:26

I saw somewhere, which escapes me at this point, that the Padres have become the most ardent scout heavy organization in MLB.

Seems like Mitchell fits that. Read literally any of the scouting reports and they're almost magical. Double plus fastball. Plus curve. Average change. Good deception etc etc.

In any case, the results in AAA were really, really good last year. In MLB? Not so much.

I don't know how much a real SP prospect goes for these days, but they just paid something along the lines of what 7MM for this one? Would Headley get 1/6 as a FA?

Anyway, I do hope they do 2 things:

1) Eat the Headley money and buy another couple of prospects from somewhere.
2) Let Hosmer sign elsewhere. Seriously, if it costs you 6/150 how in the hell are they even considering that? If they've got 13 + 25 laying around then we're talking to Machado next off season right?

Don't get me wrong it's fun to see them active again, but last time this level of activity didn't turn out too well.

Mitchell's age and the low IP make me skeptical of those 2017 AAA results. Last year was the first time in five years that his K rate was anything special. If his stuff was really whammo, seems like... more

Am i crazy to be hoping for Machado? I just cant understand the Hosmer thing. And this Headley arbitrage thing seems weird but I suppose I'll reserve judgment to see where they land. Shades of 2014,... more

I mean, I can admit I've thought that they should be saving their money for Machado anyway. But, come on now....there's no 400MM contract that they're capable of doing. Mark
