That Isn't Going to Happen

I don't think I've ever said this about another Padre-but it's time to cut Hudson. Seriously, pay him his money and tell him to go away. The whole act is just tired and I can't believe he's providing anything even close to a position influence on their younger players.

I don't have any illusions that either Parrino or Carbrera are the long term answer at 2B, but at least you are going to get someone who you don't have to worry about actually trying.

I also feel bad about Stauffer. That hurts on a couple of levels.

Moseley, not as much, not that it doesn't suck any more for him. Personally, I never thought he was much more than a 2nd division filler.

They're going to have to be careful about innings here pretty quickly. You don't want to overuse the pen, or overly tax young SP's too soon.

Well, the TV contract is a "done" deal according to Moores, and the Padres are getting a $200MM up-front bonus. I'm sure we will hear about how that money is going to upgrades at Petco, an expansion... more
    • Good news? Wahoo Willy, Tue Apr 10 16:44
Sounds like Moores is putting the team right up for sale again. He's going to make out pretty nicely in the transaction (as will Jeff Moorad and his ownership group). But it sounds like he really has ... more

I think its great news. Like you said, it can't really get much worse. Moorad couldn't cover a week's worth of salaries on his own and Moores doesn't want anything to do with the team.....it's hard... more

It's great news and awful news at the same time. That the payroll of this team this year is the same as it was in the late 90s at Qualcomm is pretty disgusting considering the baseball financials of... more

Appropriately somber, I think. And I'd imagine you're spot on about Magic Johnson's role in the ownership group. I love Magic, but he's little more than a front guy for another massively leveraged... more

I think you guys are discounting the number of opportunities these clubs have to raise revenue in less traditional roles. I think Magic is going to do a good job there as his real estate company has... more

Yeah, it really has turned into Major League. The sickest part hasn't come yet, either. Moores is going to sell this thing for $600M+. And yeah, Moorad's going to get paid - and probably... more

According to MLB: The Padres simply don't matter. We aren't the Pirates, but we're close. Well back to Moores. If they wrote this in a movie, I wouldn't have believed it.
      • Re: We All Have to Realizejst25, Mon Apr 9 01:21
Yeah, true that. McCourt wants to borrow $200MM against what will be a $2-3 billion deal, no dice because TV revenues should stay with the team. But Moores gets $200MM up-front out of a $1 billion,... more

I think a major distinction with the McCourt deal was that the other owners already wanted him GONE. Real bad. He had already bled the Dodgers org dry and was basically trying to use the up-front... more

You feel bad for Stauffer & Moseley looking like they could miss a good chunk and possibly all of the season, though that's premature at this point. Replacing those two from Kelly, Bass, Wieland and... more

Personally, I think that's jumping the gun on Hudson. I'm thinking about this from the team's perspective. What are the odds some team loses their 2b and is willing to take Hudson come June or July... more

to my eyes he's been giving it his all defensively this year and has made plays that he wouldn't have made if he was going about it in a lackadaisical way. I agree they need to move on soon, but he's ... more

If there aren't 20 or 30 better 2b now, that was true over the winter as well. Given our record of unloading mediocre offensive players over the past few years, I'm not holding my breath. He and... more

It will be interesting to see how the Bartlett situation resolves. I don't think his option will vest, and doubt he lasts as the starting shortstop through June. He'll be dealt along with 80% of his... more
