don't get me wrong -- I still loved the Latos trade and definitely agree that, on the surface, with the Petco effect in play Volquez should put up comparable overall numbers (sub 4 ERA, lots of K's). But Latos was (is) really, really good.
I was doing my nightly routine of checking out the boxscores of the Padres affiliates and was wondering why Wieland only lasted 2 innings, despite I think 4 strikeouts. Knew this was a possibility,... more
I'm excited for this start. There may not be Latos-like upside here, but if we can get Luebke-level performance out of at least two of Wieland, Erlin and Kelly, there's the makings of a pretty good... more

Yeah, the walks are going to prevent Volquez from matching Latos' FIP & xFIP. But in terms of era & K/9, it could be close. Clearly his walks are going to hurt a lot less pitching for the Padres then ... more
Alan- Agree completely on those points. Kelly is going to be the interesting one for me. I think we know relatively speaking what we're getting with Wieland. He isn't going to walk anyone and strikes ... more
