If Correa is still on the board he's probably the best shortstop prospect for the Padres taking going back to Stephen Drew. All the good ones have been long gone by the time the Padres turn comes into play. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he's the guy.
Even though Giolito is a bigger gamble then most high school arms, man I'd love the chance to add a Josh Beckett/Johnson type arm. They took two tough signs headed for UCLA last year, if they do it again I'm rooting for Giolito over Fried.
I really like Almora as well. Think his bat has a better chance of reaching it's ceiling over Correa's, but no way they pass up the multi-talented SS unless they think there is very little chance he plays the position in the bigs due to his size.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed teams like the O's, M's, Cubs & Royals are content enough with their current SS's that they think similar value at a position of more need is a better fit for them. Expecting him to be gone by #7 though. Really like having the 33rd pick as well. There should be a legit first rounder that slid for the taking.
With the way next year is looking (draft wise) the Padres seem in a good position to string together a bunch of good drafts. Hopefully.
Maybe their good luck started last year. Spangenberg is performing good (not great) while Whitson is struggling in his Sophmore year (1.67 whip, 10.6h/9, 4.6bb/9, 4.6k/9), but they really need to hit a homerun with this pick and start a new trend, like the Giants did so many years ago.
So.......big day today. The major league teeth kicking we've been taking since opening day has all but demolished my enthusiasm for everything Padres, but I'd be pretty excited for Correa. Everybody... more

Lance McCullers Jr!!! That's awesome. Lance McCullers was inexplicably one of my favorite players of all-time. Was just kind of hilarious to see that name in the draft. I had no idea. How insane is... more
Afraid to ask - but I'm assuming Fried will be significantly cheaper? How did they not take Appel? I've actually seen Appel pitch a couple of times live up here so maybe I sold myself short in terms... more
I don't question the pick, I just assumed Appel was head and shoulders above everybody else left, which turns out not to have been true. Love that Hawkins kid with the backflip, though. Not to pick,... more
Wahoo may have alluded to this before, but the Cubs picking right before us several times could be a dream-killer. Or at least a dream-maimer. The employees and players can all say the same stoic... more
