Is one of the international catcher's suppose to take most of the playing time in rookie ball this year or next?

Not to defend them because their scouting in Socal has been terrible/pathetic over time, but a top 8 grade for a position that they already filled internationally might not make a ton of sense.....right?

It is concerning they're out there looking at kids for the first time that late in the game, it sounds like Matt Bush all over again.

If Correa is still on the board he's probably the best shortstop prospect for the Padres taking going back to Stephen Drew. All the good ones have been long gone by the time the Padres turn comes... more

I think there are a few good reasons for the Padres to avoid HS catchers. I was just shocked that they'd be using their resources to take a first look at any player five days before the draft.

Ok, good. So they didn't go cheap? Honestly know nothing of fried. Just that Appel was a potential #1 (or so I thought?) did Appel drop or was there just a bunch of guys right at the same grade?

According to BA, Fried was the highest ranked lefty in the draft and was expected to go in the top-10. Really, if all goes well, he could be our Madison Bumgarner. So, that's not a bad thing. They... more

That sounds like selling Jankowski short. Chalk had some pretty great plate discipline in college - 107bb/55k in 596 AB, but had no pop (0 hr, 6 3b) and so-so speed for his skillset (32sb/8cs).... more

The reason he looks better then Chalk & Payne isn't solely on their failure. He's a better hitter then Chalk, more thump in his bat, more speed on the bases. The difference in strikeouts between him... more
