Unexpected losses
Tue Dec 16, 2014 01:11

School, it seemed, had conspired against them. Between practicing mental control, Project F, OWLs and regular classwork, there was hardly time for a couple to spend time being an actual couple. Grabbing a quick kiss in a school cupboard between lessons was quickly becoming a very poor substitute, like brushing a toe against the surface of water on a hot day. So for the sake of concentration, Grace and Leo had reluctantly but mutually agreed to set aside the relationship things until things had calmed down. She still attended chess matches with him. He still went to a few of her dueling practices. She still bumped her knee against his when they sat together, his hands still brushed her back or her shoulder, but that was as far as it went. Ri was saved from Grace’s thoughts only by the older girls sheer mental exhaustion. When a break finally occurred she had spent about a week in bed recovering.

She had left Leo a note by his bed that afternoon to meet her at the village cinema after classes. She had already made plans to join the others at the Pit to celebrate the end of OWLs, but assured Troy she would be fashionably late. Troy had given her a cheeky grin, winked and told her to take as much time as she needed.

The cinema had none of the fancy props or expensive looking décor that the Pit’s backroom had, but in the mid afternoon it had none of the crowds that would come to pack it as the day turned into night. This was especially true with their latest offering: the Rolling Dark, a “true” story about a town of muggles and wizards that have to deal with an electrical and magical blackout in the wake of a traveling trader. She tugged at the navy colored cowl necked cardigan closer, chewing idly on a liquorice wand as she waited. When he finally showed her face lit up with a smile and she hugged him like they hadn’t seen each other for years.

“I know we said, we’d meet the others later.” she told him “ but I wanted it to be us. Just for a little while. This was the best time I could get. And then afterwards I was thinking we could go back to the manor for dinner. I have something all setting up there now. No worms or anything.”

As soon as Leo escaped the stuffy classrooms and crowded halls he'd headed straight for his room. Randy wasn't there, probably still caught up in OWLs, and he was glad of it. The morning after their... more

Leo cocked an eyebrow at her quizzically as they came to a stop at the entrance to the fort. Forts were for kids, and he'd been saying that since he was nine. Still, she flapped her hand at him until ... more
