Fear Of Fear Itself
Mon Jan 19, 2015 04:39

The plot of the movie hadn't really appealed to him, but he was there for the company not the entertainment. As Grace had promised the visuals were striking for the first half hour until the novelty wore off and then he was forced to become interested in the characters in order to stay awake.

The various residents of the town slowly succumbed to the effects of the traveller and their minds quickly followed. By the time Grace had made her excuses he had become engrossed in the fate of Leila Banks and barely even noticed her leave. Leila was beautiful and clever and could weave spells around people's heads like they were playthings. Soon she was a rambling shadow of her former self, wandering through the streets in her nightgown as the finale approached.

Later, he would wonder why Leila Banks had frightened him so much. Well, not frightened perhaps but certainly left an empty space in his torso where his stomach used to be. He would conclude that it was the atmosphere or the music or something, but really it was the reminder of his mother that had stung. Their Dad had never really talked about her illness or how she had come to be the way she was. It could be hereditary for all he knew and one day he could exist on a diet of pale green liquid too. That was a frightening thought.

Grace appeared once more by his left shoulder and squeezed it gently, bringing him back to reality.

"Yeah," he smiled weakly. "They've just finished summing everything up. Time for the showdown."

He wrapped his fingers between hers and held on tightly as the conclusion of the film began in an abundance of blood and flashing, staticy, visual effects. When the lights came up he still had yellow spots dancing in front of him. They waited a while for the room to clear before making a move for the exit, trying to hold on to the time the had alone together for as long as they could.

"So," he said, when they reached the lamp post at the cross roads. One path led to the Pit where the others were no doubt waiting and the other led back towards the school and he knew which one he was definitely more interested in. "Are we dancing or do you think you can pull off a plan by the time we make it back to the Manor?"
