chair fort!

She looked in the first direction, running a hand through her hair as she thought about it. Dancing did sound good. But in her coat pocket the little coin was buzzing to tell her the other part of her plan was ready to be put into action.

“Are you suggesting, Hardy Boy, that I don’t have a plan?” she said as though mildly affronted. “ I suppose I could come up with something. But it’s difficult, what having only my little Reym style powers to work with and all. “ He was frowning again, and she realized that this kind of talk was how their fights usually began. “ Com on, I have plan to think about.”

The walk back to the manor could not have gone slower. She had begun to think and rethink hr plan . What if he didn’t like it? What if it wasn’t date-y enough? What if it was too date-y? Was that even a thing, things being date-y?

She stopped him , just before they reached the front door and lead him to the back, towards the gardens. By now it was late enough that most of the staff and taken off, and those detentioners who’d gotten kitchen duty had snuck away to do more important things. Between the kitchen garden, which had been strung with lights for no apparent reason other than to look pretty and the actual entrance, had set up a round of chairs and thrown sheets over it.

“It’s a fort.” she explained “ Not exactly a good fort, but I thought it’d do. Go on in. I gotta grab some stuff.” There was a fridge in one corner, with a Keep Out sort of glow on one of it’s many doors. She tapped it with her wand and opened it A sigh of relief escaped. All still there. She loaded the stuff into her arms and slipped into the fort.

That had taken a lot of work, trying to find the right people to both get it looking just right. She’d had all the ideas, but the dimensions were off. Even now, she could see the illusions breaking down when the fabrics were worn. The area was still nicely large and grassy, a view of the lake on an autumn night. The sky above was that from Little Wallop; shades of violet and blues and stars like diamonds. Turn around, and the view stretched out into the villages park, with it’s small swing set. Another turn, and there was the garden of the Bastrova Estate with the gazebo by the courtyen that she had jumped off in her first year, trying to see just how high the whole lying thing went. She frowned at the cloth that was laying on the grass.” It’s supposed to be more clothy.” She flicked her wand at it, and it bulked up to the size of a large opened sleeping bag in blueish green patchworks. “ And be nicer looking.” she said. She plopped down on it anyway and began setting down the dishes one at a time. A bowl , soup tureen and a series of plates and a napkin.

“Okay, now I’m not really sure i this is how it’s supposed to work , but this is how all the book said it would work. So.”

It was a complicated series of clockwise and counter clockwise turnings, swishes and a flourish. The bowl heated and the tureen sizzled until the smell of warm food started to come out. She counted it off and flipped it to the plates. It looked…well, maybe not like the pictures, but it definitely did not smell inedible. And it had the slightly pinkish color, Troy said was preferable in seafood dishes. She handed him a plate then, took the napkin and twisted it, until it formed the cooled bottle Troy had assured her was the best, most romantic in his collection of romantic drinks.

“There now, that planny enough?” She said sounding much more smug that she currently felt.
