Grace had grown up reading the Charlie Brown comics. She didn’t remember much about her and Hyana’s mom, but she did remember a box of the comics in their tiny attic. Grace went through as many of them as she could before they’d moved away from her mom. Asking Hyana wasn’t an option, since Hyana was at school, so Grace had asked Brian. The books were, apparently, from Emiko’s childhood. There were boxes full of every single Peanuts collection in that attic. It was the thing that connected Emiko to her past.

The holidays weren’t much celebrated for Grace, Hyana, and Brian moved to Boston and away from Emiko, but she remembered the specials that played on their tiny and static-y television. There was smiling, Hyana and Emiko saying lines with the cartoons and humming along with the music. Grace loved doing Snoopy’s dance.

Needless to say, the seventeen year old had really fond memories of Snoopy and his friends.

Name: Grace Sanford
Year: 6th
Height: 4’10”
Voice part (if known): I can’t sing, but I make up for it with a tremendous enthusiasm!
Desired role(s): Any
Previous experience: Shows every so often, talent show songs

It was always a standard school audition at Rocky Mountain International. Grace wanted to do the show; fun was always a welcome addition to life and school! Since she couldn’t sing, though, she didn’t really expect much out of it. So she had decided, when she was putting on her purple and black plaid dress that morning, to just sing My Party Dress like she had for one of the talent shows in the past.

The Aquila was excited to hear about a talent show in the spring and was more focused on that than the actual audition. It was fun to watch everyone practicing, too. Some people were so serious about the whole theatre thing. She understood that it was a huge passion for some people, but Grace couldn’t imagine working so hard on a song and dance.

“Green means go,” she said to the person nearby and stood. She ran her fingers through her black pixie cut once before walking through the door.

“Hey guys,” she greeted the two adults, “I, uh, didn’t prepare a monologue, but I’m barely taller than first years and I’ve got the hyperactive personality of a little kid, so I figured I’d just show off the acting with the song. I also can’t sing.”

Grace started the song with an abundance of volume and energy. The song never required the best singer, but it did require someone who could pass as an excitable five year old girl. And when Grace didn’t try dressing so she looked older (which was pretty normal now), she fit the bill really nicely. At one point in the song, she asked the audience to sing with her. If it wasn’t good enough or they didn’t sit back, Grace interrupted the entire performance and made them try again. Children were demanding; so was Grace.

After holding the final note for a super long time, she bowed quickly and grinned. “Well, thanks guys!” She hesitated, waiting to see if they needed anything else, and then left the room. The door turned green behind her. Grace waved at Logan before leaving the theatre. She had an essay to write and try and not fail.
