Desired role(s): don’t care Charlie Brown don’t care
Previous experience: Sonny in Grease, the wolf in Into the Woods

Into the Woods had been… okay. There wasn’t much else to say about it—for Cope, at least. He hadn’t really done much in the show. Just stalk Finn DuBois a little, then get brutally murdered by Riley Finn. Hell, Copeland hadn’t even been in the second act. So yeah, he guessed RMI’s theater stuff was okay, and it wasn’t what he’d expected, and it was kind of enjoyable, but not in a way that meant he’d want to do it again.

Charlie Brown, though.

Copeland had grown up on Sunday funnies, and besides Dennis the Menace and Family Circus, that very much included the Peanuts gang. Cope liked Snoopy the best, but he also felt a kind of kinship with Charlie Brown. He thought he could play him well (maybe. He knew he was up against the real actors from the upper years, like Riley) and if not, there was always Schroeder (he guessed), so Copeland abandoned his better judgment and tried to find an audition song.

The fourth-year hated asking for help, but when he found out the new counselor (old counselor? The upperclassmen said something like that—that Mr. Tennant used to be the director and the counselor and the Lyra Head of House and the Deputy Head) was helping do the show too, Cope had gone into his office. Leppit was great and all, but she was so young too—Cope was pretty sure she didn’t know a lot about directing, and especially about singing stuff for guys. If Tennant a) really was helping and 2) had all kinds of theater experience, he’d be able to help Cope pick a song.

And he had. So Copeland came to his audition having memorized “If I Only Had A Brain” and hoping that Tennant hadn’t recommended the song because he’d seen Cope’s transcript. His voice was starting to get deeper (thank god), but the song sat comfortably in his range (Tennant had also helped explain what that was), and as far as Cope could tell the audition went well. At any rate, he thought Tennant might be rooting for him—which could only help.
