I like 'em as much as you do but the fact is that heat engines are an environmental disaster.

Replacements? I dunno, nuclear fusion perhaps but yes you're right to point out that various manufacturing processes and conventional electricity generation have to be kept unless we want to put ourselves back to the middle ages.

Its a bugger. The only solution really is to cut down our population size, preferably in a humane manner.
