You know what was holding me up with Widford? I had an ending but couldn't think of how to get there without writing a really massive tome, or giving the ending away in advance.

The plan was to first build the railway then extend it to Maldon, that way the company can get some holiday traffic to bring in the revenues. After that the company acquires whatever branch lines or their old roadbeds are available that will allow them to connect to Sandringham.

Then when terrorists attempt to capture the Royal Family they escape via the branch line, foiled ambushes and chases and battle royals galore.

That was the outline and as far as I'd got but I was rather dreading the necessary research to establish first if the plan was even feasible using old maps of branch lines and comparing them to modern maps to check which were still available.

I then had to come up with a believable bunch of bad guys I was thinking IRA infiltrated by Russians or Russkis masquerading as IRA.

I liked the general outline of an idea but actually making it work looked daunting.

Also it struck me that just tidying up what I've written so far is quite enough of a story as is, i hadn't realised how much of it there was.

I take your point about the imaginary creatures being anybodys to use as well as the point about readers feeling at home with familiar concepts, a good point.

So having - I think - convinced Herbert that I'm not being mean by refusing to go out, she HAD to go but did her business and came back like a shot, no hanging about for her!....

Perhaps I can get some work done, it really ought to be drawing, painting or outlining any of the 3 unfinished pieces and dinner is already made so theres no excuse plus the daily selection on YouTube is bloody depressing its all nuclear shit and dire documentaries about crap I couldnt care less about, like the Civil War or anything to do with the Pacific, I guess I've played the European field of battle to death ditto aircraft and Atlantic naval battles.

Sunday bloody Sunday
