Hi All

I am currently remembering The Few, day by day over on Battle of Britain 75th on Facebook.

We are discussing those who were lost on each day and also the survivors today such as Tom Neil, Geof Wellum and the 10-15 total.

I am currently working on a project for the RAF 100 years Anniversary in a book that I have been asked to help write.

I am looking at 100 defining events or items, one or several for each year, 1918 to 2018.

The first and last are easy to sort and certain years such as 1936, 1939, 1945, 1940, 1982, 1990, 1991 and so on but does anyone have suggestions for what should be included for certain interwar years, or post war years apart from key years such as those mentioned, or for years filled with wars the RAF participated in including Korea, Falklands and Gulf, for example?

I have ideas but wonder if, besides first flight of the Hurricane, War information and certain personalities, whether I am missing something, such as the first woman Tornado pilot for example, birth of the Red Arrows and this sort of thing.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Hi Gerry, thanks for that. Sad news about Philip Loweth passing, he was with 249 Squadron, leaving Tom Neil as the last member alive from that illustrious Squadron now. I get a total of 9-13 of The... more
