Kenneth nearly slapped himself when he realized who he was speaking to. It was that weird kid from his first Opening Feast! Justin had acted awkward and uncomfortable the whole time and then just disappeared, leaving Kenneth to have to look for someone new to talk to so he didn't look like a friendless loner. Armed with this new information, Kenneth took Justin in again. When he had answered Kenneth, Justin had looked like he would rather eat a live eel. And why was he wearing robes? And also, like, who had hair like that? Justin was obviously the worst. But it was Kenneth who had spoken to him first, so he would just have to deal with the weirdo.

"Right," Kenneth said. He craned his neck to see the page number on the books of the nearby group. "Three-oh-three, three-oh-three," he muttered to himself, trying to pretend the silence between them didn't bother him. "Got it." Boring history, boring history, boring history, right: It was A-LOH-a-MOR-a with a swish. Kenneth was good as swishes; it was flicks that were his problem. He always over-flicked and made sparks fly out of his wand, and whenever, he tried not to flick so hard, he under-flicked and nothing happened. But this spell would be a piece of cake. That would show Justin to stop frowning at him. Not that he had to prove anything to Justin. Because he didn't care what Justin thought. At all. Seriously. Kenneth shook himself out of it.

"Uhh, you want to go first or me?" he asked Justin.

Kenneth was relieved when Justin did not make a big thing of his display, aside from a snide remark. His classmate only fixed the lock and performed the spell correctly. Kenneth felt a tinge of... more
