Serenity Locke [Lyra]
Magnets are rubbish.
Tue Mar 5, 2013 10:44

Yawning, Serenity jotted down notes for the lessons. The half-blood had no interest in magnets most certainly not in what this ridiculous teacher had to teach. Compasses were boring and she didn’t see what the lesson had to do with learning to use and control her magic. All in all, the Australian really just wanted to up and leave. She figured maybe if she finished what she was supposed to do for the classwork that she could sleep a little before her next class. The third year was not thrilled with life. It had been several months already and she still hadn’t completely adjusted to the difference in time. It had gotten easier, sleeping when she would normally be awake, but there were still those nights where she found that sleep evaded her.

As it was, Serenity found her head dropping towards her desk. Professor Ward looked just as ridiculous as his lesson was. The Lyra felt like she was back in Muggle school learning about why magnets did what they did and how the compasses worked. Serenity wanted to learn magic, and this was a poor excuse for it. She was tempted to stab herself with the needle that was sitting on her desk just to see if she could get out of class that way. Wardman probably would just tell her not to be a whinger and to get back to the task at hand. Serenity sighed and pulled her head away from her arms and began playing with the compass and magnet.

The thirteen year old did not need this. Even as her hands did what they were supposed to, several restless nights that had settled into her body threatened to drag her under into peaceful bliss. How she would have loved to allow it to. The Aussie felt her head droop before she jerked it back up in the motion that was a like a slap to the face. She sat up, only slightly alert, before realizing that she just couldn’t not fall asleep.

Without the professor looking, the girl quickly took her needle and jabbed it into one of her fingers. Serenity was most definitely awake now. She leaned over and rummaged around in her bag before pulling out a band aid. She wrapped the bandage around her profusely bleeding extremity. For a small stab, her finger sure could bleed. She pulled her hair back, hoping that not being surrounded by the dark color would assist in keeping her from drooling on her desk.

She started to drift off again, the lighting and pain in her finger only warding off the pesky fatigue away for a short time. Her eyes slid shut and Serenity slumped in her seat. She fell into that beautiful dark trance that often held so many captive in its land. Flickers of color danced behind her closed lids and started to take shape. Faces and places swam in her mind’s eye, places she missed and faces she loved. Then the world formed, Serenity was dancing as always. Spinning around without a care in the world, the girl lost herself in the beautiful dreams that greeted her in sleep. That is until her head hit the surface in front of her with a loud thud.

Serenity sat bolt upright, her head aching slightly. She reached up and rubbed the throbbing knot on her forehead, groaning when pain lanced through her cranium. She sighed and let her hand fall back to her desk. She glanced around quickly, wondering if anyone else had seen her head slam onto the desk. If anyone had, they had chosen not to stare at her. She just hoped Ward would let it slide.

In an attempt to keep herself from falling asleep again, Serenity turned to the person closest to her.

“This is so boring… makes me wanna wag class...” she said, stretching her arms over her head “This the least bit interestin’ to you?”
