It probably would have been best to put up a front of bookish anti-social behavior, but Briar couldn’t quite bring herself to go so far. She was a social creature by nature, and it was one aspect of herself that couldn’t be changed no matter how hard she tried. Which is why she now stood in Entwistle Atrium dressed in a simple cut black dress, and a pair of no nonsense black pumps. The light glinted of the small mock diamond earrings, pretty but nothing more than glittery paste. Briar kept the glasses, and wore a minimum of makeup, a friendly smile curled her lips as she entered the room.

Briar listened to the dull speech as she studied her fellow students. So far Samuel was the only person she had known prior, and for that she was grateful. Bad enough that she’d have to dodge his attentions for the next four years, she didn’t need anyone else to worry about. Why had he been staring at her earlier? It didn’t matter, Samuel would find someone or something to amuse himself with and there was no reason to believe that it would be her.

Finally the speech was done and Briar mixed and mingled with the other students as she followed Mr. Gramarye’s lead to one of the drinks tables and waited for her turn. Taking a wine glass, Briar placed it in the required position before saying softly “Gewurztraminer.” The word, while quietly spoken was pronounced perfectly. A nice white wine, something to help her relax, but not strong enough to loosen her tongue or make her forget even for a moment why she was there. She took a small sip and sighed in pleasure at the bold flavor. Turning she almost bumped into the person standing behind her. “Oh, excuse me.” She said with a warm smile.
