The light hold kept Briar from spilling her drink on the male behind her, and she was just about to thank him when she saw who it was. Her friendly smile faltered slightly as her brown eyes narrowed before she got control of herself. For Merlin’s sake! Can’t you find anyone else to bother? She thought unhappily as she offered a quiet “Thank you.” A quick glance showed that there were many other girls he could have singled out, so why her?

“Velia, Briar Velia.” She said shyly, her eyes dropping and a pretty blush filling her cheeks at his cordial manner as he kissed the back of her hand. The act was perfect, and if it was anger, and not embarrassment that colored her cheeks, well so what? “It’s a pleasure to meet you Samuel.” She murmured, careful to keep her annoyance with him in check. Oh Samuel, why couldn’t you just do what I want? She thought as she covered the scowl that wanted to form with a sip of her drink. Really, how difficult would it have been for him to just go about his life ignoring the poor little muggleborn? There was no reason he should be interested in her, and knowing Samuel he wasn’t likely to just stop being interested now.

She’d just have to keep on her guard was all. There was no way he’d ever figure out who she’d been. Not with the lengths she’d taken to insure her identity would remain hidden. After all, Briar looked nothing like the girl Samuel had once attended school with, her mannerisms were completely different. Nothing of that girl remained in poor muggleborn Briar Velia, and eventually Samuel would find someone else to be interested in.
