Sarah, you bring up a great point. It is interesting to witness the wide range of ability to retell my kindergarten students can have. From experience I've found those students with strong verbal skills are more likely to attempt retells, even if they are unsure of the answers- they seem to take the "fake it til you make it" approach. On the other hand though, students who lack confidence need a great deal more time and support to grasp retelling.
