Ditto Rachel. I like using manipulatives and props with my students. There are resource books out there that have clip art from popular stories perfect for retelling. I have used them in whole group, as well as had the kids make their own set (writing numbers on the back to help them retell in order) to take home with a simple copy of the story. Some of their favorites include, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and Froggy Gets Dressed.
