I think it can be difficult to keep students (boys & girls) engaged and motivated in general, if their opinion isn't taken into account. I find if I don't continuously switch the books in my book baskets, being sure to include some of the class favorites voted on from read aloud time, that they lose interest and can become unmotivated to read.

      Most of my girls read above grade level and as I am moving them into small chapter books I am thinking about using this process with them too.

        I agree and disagree a little- I first had some book clubs based off of only interest...and the discussion at the 5th grade level was not what it should have been, and I had a lot of misbehaving.... more
