I liked the strategies you used for motivation during your study - and I really liked what you DIDN'T use! When my kids were in elementary school the teachers really emphasized Accelerated Reader, and I think it had a negative impact on my kids' reading habits. They read AR books only, not books they were interested in reading, and I think my boys were eventually turned off on reading. I agree with you, reading about topics that they are actually interested in is critical to engaging boys in reading. I think you are right on target!

      I thought about the same thing, motivating girls with materials that interest them. More and more schools are separating by gender for things like reading and science.

      I have not tried this process with all my girls. I have used it with a couple of my young ladies reading chapter books. They read the same book and discuss it with one another.
