I definitely think that as teachers we MUST read aloud to our students. They need to hear the language read in a fluent manner. I wonder if some of our students who do have fluency issues, might not have been read to as much as others. That background is invaluable. I actually think that read alouds have a strong purpose for a long time...at least throughout elementary school and I can even see benefits in upper grades as well.
