I too struggled with reading as a child as well and definitely didn't enjoy reading. In my own classroom teaching experiences I have tried to share that with students, letting them know that we all have different strengths and weaknesses, but that they don't have to define who we are. I let them know that as an adult, I love to read and I also try to share my excitement with them. Reading buddies have been one of my most successful ways to motivate kids to read who don't enjoy it. It's always better to have a buddy with you when you have to do something you don't really like.
