I very much agree with the point you made, that research guides good teaching. I think that all too often teachers become comfortable doing things they have always done, in the same way that they have always done them, and they don't adjust to different students, different classes, new technology, etc. Good teachers are flexible enough to take the knowledge they have gathered - their own research - as well as research which has been done by others, and use it as a tool for becoming effective teachers.
