I love how all of you responded in unique ways to your students' interests but kept the same basic framework. Another thing that boys like according to research (and my experience sure confirms this) is reading with technology: Kindles, websites, online, etc. Check out some of these unbelievable resources Beth Frye, Woody Trathen, and I have come across in preparing a paper we're working on for teachers: http://inanimatealice.com/, http://pinterest.com/, http://blogs.jefftwp.org/wordpress/walker/, http://digitalis.nwp.org/. Motivating writing is in some ways even easier than motivating reading, but they are closely related, as you point out at the end of your presentation.

    In my group I had second grade, so I chose the books for them. I based that descision on research evidence that boys at this age still view reading as fun and enjoyable.
