I didn't really see any problems with the way that we had them grouped. Some of the lower students even tried a little harder. When we gave the Irwin and Mitchell retell I used a book they had not read previously. We thought that would give us a beter idea of how much they could retell on their own.

      I also liked the Irwin and Mitchell scale. It gives really clear levels which indicate the quality of a retell. I am going back to your references/resources to find the article which tells about this ... more
