Hey Marlee! I am glad that we gave you some new ideas. I really liked the manipulative strategy and I thought it worked really well. When we were conducting the story elements strategy we focused on character for three books, setting for three books, and sequencing for three books. I think focusing on these things for a few lessons really helped. I hope the article gives you good ideas.

        Manipulatives during reading is a great idea! I would love to be able to do that in 3rd grade! I wonder if it would be possible?

          I definitely think it's possible. One study we looked at had students create and imagine what occurred in the scene. It was a part of the retell process. Students could also draw their own characters ... more
