5 of my students received ESL services. 1 student was pulled everyday for 45 minutes during our math block to help him master the math curriculum. Another student is pulled everyday for 45 minutes during the green band of imagine it(phonics). The ESL teacher works with her on letter and sound recognition. The other 3 students are pulled twice a week for 30 minutes during the red band of Imagine It! So they are able to work on reading and listening comprehension, as well as rhyming.

I found that my students who were able to spend their ESL time working on reading and listening comprehension were able to perform better on task during our research.

      My question is with your ESL/ELL/LEP students does it make it more challenging to get to their background knowledge? Not that they don't have the experience to pull from but I imagine the language... more
