We did make sure the books were on the student's independent reading level before we started. We used their QRI scores for that which Nakita collected at the beginning of the year. We did have the students place sticky notes in their reading. The sticky notes had a letter or symbol on it-"S" for schema which they would tell their buddy of a connection that they made, "a heart"- for what they loved, and a " ?" for something in the text they did not understand. They discussed these parts of the book which they placed their sticky notes with their partners. We did not have them do any other specific comprehension tasks because we were just focusing on motivation.

      I know my students love to read to one another as well, but do you ever have some students who like to sit with a friend but end up not reading? I hate for them to not be able to read to each other.... more

        The students also shared their thoughts on the books they read with their buddies in their book share groups.
