The study by Cihon, Gardner, Morrison, & Paul helped us to focus our attention on the "body smart" aspect of the instruction. We used the letter sign from American Sign Language, and then we just used motions or gestures that seemed to come naturally, like a kind of "slinky" motion for stretching out the beginning sounds, like the /m/ sound. We used a sort of popping gesture for the /p/ sound, and others that are similar. It truly did seem to help the students.

    I am so excited that you did your research paper on this topic! Do you use the body smart strategies with Imagine It? Where can I find more information/materials for the body smart strategies?
