Puppets are a great idea!! I have used that in the past- I had a grade mom make them for me- or sometimes she pulled the kids and made them during class as a station while I did my small group reading with the kids. you can make them as finger puppets, paper bag puppets, or the expensive kind- which I don't reccommend for the purpose of them tearing eventually. You could always apply for a grant to becuase there are so many out there so you can purchase puppet sets to go with different books or units you might be using. Or you can create something on DonorsChoose and raise money on there for puppets. I have used and experienced both and have had great success and have paid nothing! I wish you luck, and I am glad you have an open mind to new ideas :-)
