Thanks for the feedback! It is nice to hear from teachers in older grades how important it is to teach comprehension and retell to students. It is interesting to see that students in 5th grade are struggling with comprehension and retell just like the Kindergarten students in our study. We definitely need to have strategies in place to help our students learn how to understand text. I think it will be beneficial to start early in school. What kind of comprehension strategies have you been using with your fifth graders?

        I have noticed that too! It seems as though students either only use the pictures (and come up with details that have nothing to do with the actual story) or don't use the pictures at all even though ... more
