So true! A lot of people on the thread have been commenting on how older students (4 or 5th grade) struggle with comprehension and retell. I think strategies like manipulatives and story structure need to be taught earlier so students will begin to know how to understand text. Students in Kindergarten who may not be reading still listen to stories read aloud so they still need to be able to comprehend and retell information.

    Great presentation! Comprehension in kindergarten is so crucial. It makes teaching reading and comprehension in upper grades a lot easier!
