Sarah, I agree. KWL is a simple and effective strategy. Its perfect for both students and teachers, helping to engage students on the topic by activating prior knowledge and also providing an quick/easy assessment for teachers. I often find myself adjusting instruction based on the information I learn about my students already know from the K section of the chart. KWL is also a format that students can easily grasp and mine like to revisit old charts to recall the new information learned.
