Finding a topic to write about for the argument paper was a task. In my English IV class part of the exam was an argumentative/persuasive research paper, which I did on vaccinations. At first I was thinking of furthering the research and writing a new paper on more recent studies, but that idea was declined, as well as two other ideas that I had on governments involvement on citizens diets and if celebrities were given special treatment in the judicial system based off their money. Finally, though, I got it right and my research paper will be based off the topic of gun control and whether people should be able to own a gun. The topic has been circulating the media, internet, and politics for a couple of years now and seems to be under huge debate within all areas.
The side that I want to take on the matter is that people should be able to own a gun. Being able to own a gun is protected under the 2nd amendment, as well as there are procedures that have to be completed in order to own a gun in the United States legally. There are certain points I want to stress in my paper as well. I want the reader of it to understand I stand on the fact that only legal citizens should be able to own a gun, criminals who have been convicted of murder or any kind of violence repeatedly should not own a gun, that everyone who owns a gun must only use it for recreation purposes only and self-defense, and that they have a legal document accompanying that weapon saying that they have completed class and have been educated on the use of it. That includes a concealed weapons license.
Set up wise of the paper my main point will be the second amendment. The right has been in place for almost 220 years, and is supported because of its age as well as the whole concept of its placement in the bill of rights. I am also hoping to find well known personal stories of how owning a gun has saved people in the past, and how without the gun they probably would not have survived. Living in a country where bearing arms is a right has its benefits, but of course though I am taking the side of that I know that there are risks. Though, even if owning guns was made illegal, I honestly believe that the people who misuse the weapon would still find one way or another to acquire one.
