The song I chose to identify with was “Does Anybody Hear Her” by Casting Crowns. This song is probably my favorite song by Casting Crowns and a song that I can really relate to. The song is about a girl that is searching for a purpose in life and approval of people. You can tell the girl is uncertain of what to do and where to go. She seeks comfort in church but everyone at the church judges her based on her passed and the way she looks, which is the exact opposite of the way a church congregation should greet a guest at their church. I think Casting Crowns wanted to send out a message to all the churches out there and open their eyes and show them that most of them are not friendly or open to people who appear different from them or seem as if they have had a sinful past. In reality, everyone has sinned and therefore has had a sinful past and cannot be one to judge someone else for the wrong things they have done. I can identify with this song because when I was growing up, I went to church pretty much every Sunday until I got to High School and then I started to lay out a lot more. The Sunday’s when I would actually go to church I never really felt welcomed. My church youth group was filled with people that were really close with the bible and seemed to never mess up or sin. I, however, liked to go out on the weekends and drink, which I am sure all of them knew, and therefore I felt as if I was always given certain looks like “Why is she here?” and “Wow, Logan actually came today!” Plus on top of all of that, no one would really come up and greet me during youth events. I normally sat to myself, which is probably why I never liked going. Just because I made mistakes in my life and did things they might not have done, does not give them the right to ostracize me. I am a Christian just like they are and I was lost at the time and searching for who I was and where I belonged, Christians are supposed to accepting and loving towards all. They could have reached out to me and asked if I needed anything or took the time to see what I was going through and try to lead me down the right path, but no, they labeled me and judged me. The lyrics of this song go hand-in-hand with my life. Churches preach about reaching out for the lost people out in this world but when one comes underneath their steeple and looks for comfort, they are out casted for their sins, branded with a scarlet letter. Casting Crowns made the mood of this poem a sad feeling, in hopes that Christians would hear the message of this song and stop turning away the lost people in this world, searching for who they are and where they fit in, like I was.
