I have used DRTA with one of my fifth grade students that I see for reading comprehension. This has turned out to be an excellent strategy to use with him. He really has trouble with literal comprehension questions, not to mention questions why/how questions. I have found that shortening the amount that he reads, giving him a purpose for each selection, and having him use re-reading strategies at times when he is really struggling to comprehend.
